ON APRIL 11, 2011 THE WEST CHESTER AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT VOTED TO EXTEND THE CURRENT CONTRACT WITH THE WEST CHESTER AREA EDUCATION ASSOCIATION UNTIL JUNE 29, 2012. The West Chester Area Education Association offered the District a wage freeze for the 2011-2012 school year. This offer was made in consideration of the current financial situation the District faces for the 2011-2012 school year. It has been estimated the the agreement will save the District 1.9 million dollars. However, the savings could be as high as 2.2 million dollars. It has been stated at previous board meetings that the district has only saved about 1.4 million dollars from this wage freeze, but at this current time the total saved on teachers salaries from the freeze is just over 2 million dollars.
